With a staggering cash and prize payout valued at nearly $60,000, the 2009 U.S. Open of Mountain Biking continues the legacy of offering the largest pro-purse in America and the most competitive gravity racing in the nation. Set to take place on May 22 through 24th, elite mountain bike racers from across the globe will converge at Diablo Freeride Park to battle for the most coveted title in American mountain bike racing.
Terralogic Park Industries, operators of Diablo Freeride Park and promoters of the U.S. Open of Mountain Biking, is pleased to announce that athlete, vendor and media registration is now available by visiting www.usopen-mtb.com. The 7th annual U.S. Open of Mountain Biking returns in 2009 with various improvements including a new Giant Slalom discipline, a Junior racing division and a host of new improvements to the legendary U.S. Open downhill course.
Featuring a $7,500 pro-purse and nearly $15,000 in amateur prizes, the new U.S. Open Giant Slalom discipline will take place on a custom-built race course designed by the Diablo Parklogic Team. The new IndyCross Giant Slalom features a series of huge banked turns, jumps and other obstacles providing a unique twist to gated gravity racing. Racers with precision bike control and a keen ability to use manmade enhanced terrain to generate velocity will prove victorious in this exciting new discipline.
Among many other improvements, the U.S. Open downhill course will continue to evolve with various trail revisions including a completely rerouted lower mountain section. During the past six years, the U.S. Open downhill course has played host to nearly 3,000 racers and top professional athletes from across the globe. "Each year we continue to improve the U.S. Open course to provide a fun and exciting experience for racers and spectators alike", said Event Director Shawn Orecchio.
The athlete field of the U.S. Open of Mountain Biking is predominately pre-registered and all competitors are urged to register in advance to secure their qualifying position and early start seed. The starting order for qualifying rounds is first-come, first-served and is based on order of registration.
