Bessette conserve son maillot jaune

Fitchburg, Massachussetts-Lyne Bessette a conservé son maillot jaune de meneuse à la suite de la deuxième étape de la Classique Fitchburg-Longsjo, une épreuve de 50 kilomètres disputée sur un circuit routier de 5 kilomètres. Bien que deuxième, Bessette a obtenu le même temps que la gagnante, l'Américaine Tina Mayolo. L'athlète de catégorie junior Geneviève Jeanson, du club Espoirs Laval, a de nouveau surpris en menant le peloton de chasse pour mériter la troisième position.

Classée 150e au monde, Mayolo a attaqué à 400 mètres de l'arrivée, Bessette a tenté d'aller le rejoindre à l'avant, mais a été vaincue par une roue. "J'ai bien essayé d'aller la chercher, mais je m'y suis pris trop tard." a expliqué Bessette après la course. "Ce fut tout de même une bonne course. Notre vitesse moyenne a été d'environ 49 kilomètres à l'heure. Avec la chaleur qu'il faisait, c'est très bon."

Dimanche, lors de la troisième des quatre étapes, les cyclistes franchiront 92 kilomètres sur un parcours montagneux avec arrivée au sommet du Mont Wachussett.
