Bessette remporte son 4e tour professionnel de la saison

Fitchburg, Massachussetts-Lyne Bessette a confirmé sa victoire à la Classique Fitchburg-Longsjo en terminant au 5e rang du critérium de 40 kilomètres présenté lundi dans les rues de Fitchburg. Comme convenu avant la départ, les athlètes de l'équipe Saturn ont tout fait pour garder le peloton regroupé de façon à protéger la première position de Bessette. La tactique a fonctionné et Bessette a terminé au 5e rang lors du sprint final gagné par Pam Schuster. Bessette remporte donc ce tour de quatre étapes avec une avance de 42 secondes sur la très surprenante Geneviève Jeanson, une cycliste junior du Club Espoirs Laval.

Après la Classique de Redlands, le Tour de Willamette et le Tour de l'Aude, la cycliste de Knowlton s'approprie un 4e Tour professionnel cette année. " Je ne m'attendais pas à un tel succès cette année. Ma forme physique est bonne et aussi , et surtout, mon côté mental. Quand on commence la saison tôt, on a tendance à décrocher à ce temps-ci de l'année. Mais dans ma tête, ça va bien. Tout le monde autour de moi va bien, ma famille, mon chum. #&231;a me rend tellement la vie plus facile. " a conclu Bessette avec un sourire dans la voix.

La cycliste, qui attend toujours de savoir si elle a été choisie ou non pour participer aux Jeux panaméricains, a l'intention de se la couler douce pendant quelques jours à la maison.

Bromont Velodrome damaged by hight winds

Exceptionaly strong winds damaged the first curve of the Bromont velodrome in the night of Sunday to Monday. The facility managers are assessing the damage done to the track and will determine on Monday the schedule of repair. The two races planed at the Bromont track are cancelled for July 8 and 10. The Canadian Cycling Development Center of Bromont wishes to restore the track to resume track operations in the shortest delay.

Hot Summer Nights Club Series/Adventures on the Grand Points Race

A monthly mountain bike club race is being offered at Adventures on the Grand, 147 East River Road, Paris on the following dates.

      Wednesday, July 7th (free preview night), 7pm
       Wednesday, July 14th, ($10), 7pm
       Wednesday, August 11th, ($10), 7pm
       Wednesday, September 15th, ($10), 7pm
The Adventures on the Grand Points Race will replace the Red Hill Grand Prix which was originally scheduled in Hamilton.

1999 Handisports National Championships prepare athletes with a disability for Sydney 2000 Olympic Summer Games

Visually impaired and cerebral palsy athletes to compete for national titles in road race and individual time trial events....

Victoria, BC - National titles for cyclists with a disability are up for grabs next weekend as the 1999 Handisports National Cycling Championships take to the roads of the Greater Vancouver area July 10, 11.

Hosted by the PacificSport National Cycling Centre, the 1999 Handisports National Cycling Championships are key in the athletes1 development and early preparation for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney Australia where athletes with a disability will compete for Olympic medals in cycling for the first time.

The championships will start with a training camp July 7 to 9, lead by National Team coaches Vincent Jourdain and Steve Lund. It will focus on skill enhancement and race preparation for the visually impaired and cerebral palsy athletes competing in road race and time trial categories. Many of the athletes have participated in World Championships and other major international competitions for disabled athletes.

Visually impaired cyclists compete on tandem bicycles with a sighted pilot, working together as a team. They will contest a 10 km time trial and a 50 km road race. The Canadian team of Brian Cowie and Min van Velzen (pilot) of Vancouver, are silver medalists from the 1998 World Championships in Boulder, Colorado.

Cerebral Palsy athletes compete against the clock in time trails of various distances from 800 meters to 20 km. The cerebral palsy events are being hosted in conjunction with the BC Games for Athletes with a Disability (BCGAD) in North Vancouver, July 7-11.

The road race events will be held July 10 on a course just east of Fort Langley, BC. The time trial events, to be held July 11, will be held on a closed road course in North Vancouver. Spectators and media will be provided with transportation to key spots on the course.
