We received word that rider Matt Chater has been in a serious motorcycle accident.
Below is a copy of a message distributed by the Burnaby Velodrome Assn. from Andy George who visited Matt in hospital yesterday afternoon.
I when to see Matt today at 2:30 he was still in emergency. [he] Has 13 broken ribs, broken scapula, fractured C2 & T1 vertebrae and a collapsed right lung . He is in a lot of pain but he is in relatively good spirits all things considered. I had him laughing ... the nurse said that was good it gets thing moving out of his chest. When I was leaving they were just going to move him to CCU. He would be glad to have visitors. If you go to visit him, I think CCU only allows 2 visitors at once.
He is in Royal Columbian.
