The Kelly Benefit Strategies pro cycling squad heads east this week to field a double defense of last season's victories at both the Bank of America Wilmington Grand Prix and Baltimore's Kelly Cup, part of Bike Jam, Baltimore's premier cycling event. Both races mark what Jonas Carney describes as the real start of the KBS racing program.
"The Kelly Cup is our title sponsor's event and we consider it our hometown race," says Jonas Carney, Performance Director. "Our focus has always been to ride well starting in mid-May as the Wilmington GP and the Kelly Cup kicks off a block of racing that is very important to this team and our sponsors. Our preparation has gone well and I am confident our team is ready."
Scott Zwizanski returns to the Wilmington Grand Prix as defending champion – riding this year with Kelly Benefit Strategies, one of the teams he beat last season. David Veilleux, back from an early season training injury and riding well, will defend his 2008 title which he took in definitive style at the Kelly Cup last season.
"Last year Zwiz beat us in Wilmington and it was an impressive win," adds Carney. "We're psyched to have him with our team this year and we are very happy to return to Wilmington and Baltimore with the defending champions in each race."
The squad also includes Alex Candelario, Reid Mumford (yellow jersey in the recent Vuelta Ciclista del Uruguay), Jonny Sundt, Ryan Anderson, Jake Keough and Zach Bell.
The Kelly Benefit Strategies pro cycling squad will also be leading a Ride with the Pros event during the Wilmington Grand Prix, an invitational ride for local riders and members of the Kelly Benefit Strategies Wilmington Delaware office's staff which eason season is led out by a police escort motorcade through downtown Wilmington. The Kelly Cup is part of Bike Jam, Baltimore's premiere cycling event and a sponsored event named for John Kelly, title sponsor and president of Kelly Benefit Strategies.
The Kelly Benefit Strategies Pro Cycling roster for both races includes:
