Kelso Conservation Area is hosting a bi-weekly mountain bike series every second Tuesday night from May 19th to August 25th. The races are open to all ages and abilities – from those who are just discovering the thrill of riding trails, to experienced racers.
Registration
Two options:
1. Register for individual races on each race day, or
2. Register one time for all 8 races
Option 1
You register on race day. For each race, you must purchase a trail pass at the park entrance, make your way to the start line, and then register for the race between 5:30pm and 6:30pm. You will complete a registration form, sign a waiver, pay for the race (credit, debit and cash accepted) and receive your number plate.
Option 2
Register one time for the whole series of 8 races. You still have to purchase a trail pass at the park entrance, and make your way to the start line, but then you only have to sign-in. You will have already completed the paper work and you will already have your number plate. And you can feel good about committing yourself to an 8 week fitness program. It’s a win win win situation.
Under 18s
If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian will have to sign your waiver, so please bring that person to the race. By signing up for the whole series, your parent or guardian will only have to come to the first race.
Registration Summary
1. Purchase a trail pass at the Park entrance.
2. Sign-in or register and pay race fee at start area.
The next race, on Tuesday June 2nd, starts and finishes at the Sunset Day Lodge, so that is where you will register. Enter the park via the Main Gate, park by the pedestrian overpass, go across it, bear right and head for the lodge. Click here for directions to the park.
Cost
There are two fees to pay for each race.
• Trail Pass $7 / race – payable at park gate
• Race Fee $8 / race – payable at race registration desk
Or, you can save some money by signing up for the whole race series.
• Race series $40 / series of 8 races
And if you are planning doing quite a bit of riding this season, you may want to consider buying an annual pass for Conservation Halton. There are lots of great reasons to buy an annual individual pass (gets you into the trails and parks) or a vehicle pass (gets you and the occupants of your car into the trails and parks). Click here for the sales pitch.
Where does your money go?
• paid mtb crew, who manage the trails – clearing hazards, maintaining bush, fixing erosion and drainage issues, doing re-routes, repairing and making new features, and developing new trails
• new quality trail sign network – installation is currently underway
• the set-up and running of the Kelso MTB Race Series
• the set-up and running for the new Trail Ambassador Program
Course Info
The main course will be one time around an approximate 10km loop consisting of wide trail, service road and single track. Everyone will start at the same time. There’s a substantial climb not long after the start, so please make sure you have sufficiently warmed-up.
There will also be a shorter approximate 2km loop around the bottom of the slopes that participants will complete twice.
Both courses are open to everyone. You decide which one you want to race on. However, points awarded for short course competitors who decide to race the main course later on will not be carried over. So, decide wisely.
For your safety, volunteers from our new MTB Trail Ambassador program will be marshals on the main course.
Timing & Points
Your time will be recorded using a computerized timing system and the results posted on this page the following day. For the Series racers, your best 6 results will count towards your total points accumulated at the end of the series.
If you do not finish a race (DNF), please let one of the officials know before you head home. Otherwise we will think that you are lost in the trails!
Categories
We are using the following nine age and gender categories for the main course:
Under 15, 16-30, 31-45, 46-59, and 60+
Prizes
When you sign-in/register, you will receive a Prize Draw Ticket. Don’t loose it, because at the end of the race we will have a lucky draw for some very nice prizes, which are being provided by the following bike stores: Spokes n Slopes, Milton; Gearhead, Milton; Cyclepath, Oakville; The Bicycle Works, Waterdown; and Free Wheel, Dundas. We are also very proud to the have the support of Smith Optics and Jamis bikes, which are both providing very cool prizes for some of the series category winners.
Weather
In the event of water-logged trails or bad weather conditions, we may cancel a race. We will notify you of any changes by posting an announcement on this page by 3pm on race day.
