Bromont Velodrome re-opens

Good news for the track fans. The City of Bromont has been quick to respond to the damages done by a tornado to the Bromont Velodrome recently. A local contractor is finishing the repairs this week and the Bromont track racing series will resume on Saturday, July 17, on the day the track will re-open.

The quickness of repair was critical for the Canadian Cycling Training Center of Bromont (CCDCB) since riders of the province and out of the province will need to train on the track in preparation for the Eastern Canadian Track Championship taking place on July 31 to August 1st. Riders from Québec, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia are expected to participate in this track premiere since track cyclists have been essentially racing only the Canadian Track Championship in recent Canadian cycling history.

Weather as been good so far (except for a tornado !), and the organizers wish the track meet in Bromont will be a great success, considering particularly that the 1999 Canadian Track Championships could not run all the regular events because of persistent rain.It could be an interesting rematch for some track riders...

Bromont looses a key person.

On a sader tone, the CCDCB deplores the departure of Pierre Manseau, the Bromont Sports Center's director, who died in a car crash on July 6. Pierre Manseau played a key role in the building and managing of the Bromont cycling track and has been a constant supporter of the CCDCB activities. It will be extremely difficult for his/her successor to meet the challenges the way Pierre Manseau met them. Pierre Lizotte, President of the Canadian Cycling Training Center of Bromont, joined the several hundred persons that expressed their sympathy to the family of Pierre Manseau at the funerals that took place in Bromont on July 10.
