A counterattack just as an early breakaway was being caught led to a group of 13 getting, and staying, away from the field on this rolling stage from Jonzac to Futuroscope. Gianpaolo Mondini gave Cantina Tolli their first win of the Tour. Jean-Cyril Robin was second and Alexandre Vinokourov third. There was no change to the top-10 GC
