2009 marks the 5th anniversary of Le Tour de Terra Cotta, the only European Style Road race held in Ontario. Three events are held on the scenic and challenging 9km course in the hills of the Niagara Escarpment. Since its inception, the race continues to gain popularity as the number of racers and spectators grow each year – 200 riders are expected to participate this August. Although most participants come from the Golden Horseshoe, we have welcomed riders from across Canada and the United States, and as far as Italy. Created as a Citizen’s Race based on the vision of one man, his community, his cycling club and sanctioned by the Ontario Cycling Association, Le Tour De Terra Cotta is a fast becoming an elite race.

What: The 5th annual Le Tour de Terra Cotta cycle race. The only race of its kind in Ontario, Le Tour de Terra Cotta offers three events. Le Tour de Terra Cotta Kids is a great way to introduce children ages 8-16 to cycling for fun and health and to ensure the sports longevity. Le Tour de Terra Cotta Spin new for 2009 is a shorter 3 lap course (27km) for new riders, tri-athletes in training or for those who prefer a shorter course. The signature event, Le Tour de Terra Cotta Classic is 108 km of Classic European Style Racing for licensed riders, or those who have purchased a one day license. All events offer an unique experience for riders and spectators alike.

When: Monday, August 3, 2009. Continental breakfast, lunch and food items will be for sale at the Forge Pavilion beginning at 7 a.m. Le Tour de Terra Cotta Kids begins at 8:00 a.m. Le Tour de Terra Cotta Spin start time scheduled for 9:30 a.m., Le Tour de Terra Cotta Classic begins at 11 a.m., with the events ending at 2 p.m.

Where: The quaint town of Terra Cotta located on the western border between Caledon and Halton Regions. The start/finish line for all events is in front of the Forge Pavilion on King St.. The route following Heritage Road, Old School Road, Winston Churchill Blvd and King Street will all be closed on the day of the event.

Who: This event is run entirely by volunteers from the community and local cycling clubs. It was started in 2005 by Ted Webb and the Terra Cotta Community Residents Association and is sanctioned by the Ontario Cycling Association. This year, proceeds from the event will go to The Terra Cotta Community Centre, a designated Caledon Heritage Building built in 1862, to help with its refurbishing.
