The elite categories have just started their cross country races in Silverstar, B.C. - the last race in the Canada Cup series. Greg Flaaten, our man on the spot says that it rained all last night and this morning. The 9 kilometre course is generally in good shape, but there is a section at the lower end of the circuit where the ground has turned into "a rooty, muddy mush". The men do 5 laps, the women and Junior men 4. The top pros (ie, Alison Sydor, Chris Sheppard, Seamus McGrath, Chrissy Redden, Andreas Hestler, Lesley Tomlinson and Roland Green) have given this race a miss, but Peter Wedge, Georges Visser, Mathieu Toulouse, Melanies Dorion and McQuaid, Amber Chorney and Marie-Helene Premont are all here. Greg will call in a report at the halfway point of the race.
