The women are just getting called up, and will start in 5 min. The wind has picked up a bit and there is a bit more cloud cover than earlier. Temperature is ~ 22 and very humid.
Women will do 5 laps
Lap 1
They are off and Katrin Leumann gets the holeshot. Margarita Fullana (Massi )sitting ~ 4th with Marie-Helene Premont (Team Maxxis-Rocky Mountain Bicycles ) and Catharine Pendrel (Luna Pro Team ) right behind her. Katherine Compton crashed just after the start (in the feedzone)
Up over the top of the climb it is Fullana, followed by Irina Kalentieva (Topeak Ergon Racing Team ) and Catharine Pendrel (Luna Pro Team )
At the end of lap 1 it is Willow Koerber (Subaru-Gary Fisher ) leading with 15 seconds on Catharine Pendrel (Luna Pro Team ), Irina Kalentieva (Topeak Ergon Racing Team ). At another 12 seconds is Margarita Fullana (Massi ). Mary Mcconneloug (Kenda Seven NoTubes) is just behind. Lene Byberg (Specialized Factory Racing ) 6th, Elisabeth Osl (Central Ghost Pro Team ) 7th, Georgia Gould (Luna Pro Team ) 8th, Heather Irmiger (Subaru-Gary Fisher ) 9th, Cécile Rode Ravanel (Lapierre International ) 10th
Marie-Helene Premont (Team Maxxis-Rocky Mountain Bicycles ) is 13th 1:40 back. Emily Batty 15th 1:55
Lap 2
Down the descent it is Catharine Pendrel (Luna Pro Team ) leading with Irina Kalentieva (Topeak Ergon Racing Team ) cahsing at a few seconds back, Marga Fullana is climbing well, but having difficulty in the technical sections and is losing time on the leaders
At the 3/4 way through the lap, Kalentieva has moved to the front with Pendrel in 2nd. Willow Koerber (Subaru-Gary Fisher ) in 3rd spot with Lene Byberg (Specialized Factory Racing ) moving up
At the end of the lap it is Kalentieva with Pendrel at 3 seconds. Byberg at 9 seconds and Koerber at 13 sec. Mcconneloug 5th, Osl 6th
And it has just started to drizzle
Up the climb it is Kalentieva, Pendrel and Byberg. McConneloug at 35 sec, Koerber at 45 sec, Osl at 1:05, Katie Compton at 1:35, Gould at 1:40, Cécile Rode Ravanel (Lapierre International ) at 1:50, then Nash in 10th and Heather Irmiger (Subaru-Gary Fisher ) 11th . Batty now 14th
Premont seems to be having some difficulties breathing, and is over 6 min back in 20th
At the end of the lap, Byberg has attacked and dropped Kalentieva and Pendrel
Lap 3
Byberg is riding very well through the technical sections in the last 1/3 f the course. Kalentieva is struggling
At the end of the lap it is Byberg, Kalentieva at 1 second, Pendrel at 40 seconds. McConneloug 4th at 1:19, Koerber 5th at 1:20, Osl 6th at 1:56, Compton 7th, Gould 8th, Nash 10th at nearly 4 min. Batty is 14th, Premont 15th at 7 min back, Amanda Sin is 16th
Lap 4
The rain is really starting to come down now
Over the top of the climb and Byberg has dropped Kalentieva by a good gap.
Tereza Hurikova (Ceska Sporitelna Mtb ) has crashed and is bleeding from her knee
Lap 5
As the set out for the final lap, Byberg's lead is 52 seconds on Kalentieva. Pendrel at 1:57, McConneloug 4th at 2:27 seconds behind Pendrel. Koerber 6th at 2:42, Osl at 2:52, Kompton at 2:59. Premont 13th, Batty 15th, Sin 16th
Fullana has dropped out
It has been announced that the men will now do 6 laps (instead of 7) because of the rain
Byber has just claimed her first ever win of a World Cup
