August 5/09 13:03 pm - CCA Board Holds Semi-Annual Meeting

The Canadian Cycling Association's Board of Directors held its semi-annual meeting in Sutton, QC from August 1-3, 2009.

This was the first opportunity for five of the directors to meet the new CEO, Greg Mathieu, face to face.  The meeting was chaired by CCA President John Tolkamp.

The meeting dealt with several areas of the Association's Strategic Plan 2009-2012 and the programs and activities that will enable the association to meet its goals over this quadrennial.  The final version of the Plan is to be available on the CCA website prior to the Annual Meeting.

Highlights of the Semi-Annual meeting include:

- The draft Audited Financial Statement for the year ended March 31, 2009 showed net revenue for the year of over $ 83,000 after adjustments.  This is the second consecutive year end that has shown a surplus.

- The CCA Board reaffirmed their commitment to the national anti-doping campaign which they have asked the Task Force to have ready for presentation at the CCA Annual Meeting this October.

- A very positive report on the recently approved UCI Pro Tour races which will be held in Quebec City and Montreal each year beginning in 2010.  The CCA President met with Serge Arsenault the President of Grand Prix Cyclistes Pro Tour during the weekend and was very positive as to the plans and goals of this prestigious event and the positive collaboration that is being built between the CCA and the organizer.

- The Board discussed the new CCA structure that has been built from its major overhaul of the Association.  They were generally pleased with how the structure is progressing.  The Board heard reports from the CEO, Chief Technical Officer, Development Director and Director of Finance & Administration.

-  In addition to the meeting agenda, the Board members took some time out to attend the very successful Bromont MTB World Cup in Bromont.  Among the many delegates to the event was former CCA President Brian Jolly, who attended the event on behalf of the UCI.  Brian is a member of the UCI Mountain Bike Commission.  With John Tolkamp, Pierre Blanchard and Bill Kinash also present, the four most recent Presidents of the CCA were all gathered at the same event.

- As the final business matter prior to adjourning the meeting, the Board discussed the candidates that had expressed interest on the soon to be formed CCA Advisory Council.  The number and caliber of candidates was outstanding and the President and Board had a difficult task in narrowing down the list to a size that would be functional and effective.  More on the Advisory Council will be brought forward once those selected have been contacted and confirmed.
