The UCI has announced the number of riders countries will be allowed in the Men's Elite and U23 road races for the 2009 Road Worlds in Mendrisio, Switzerland. The allotments are based on nation and rider rankings in the UCI World and Continental classifications, as of August 15th.
The top ten nations get nine starters for the Elite road race. Canada qualified fifth in the UCI America Tour, and thus gets to start three riders (five can be selected, but only three actually start the race). In the U23 category, Canada gets to select eight riders and start four. The maximum for any country in U23 is five riders.
