Cyclists Preparing for Cyclo-cross Nationals in Edmonton
Just one month until the biggest weekend in Canadian Cyclo-cross.
In just under one month, the top cyclo-cross athletes in Canada will descend on Argyll Park in Edmonton, Alberta to compete for the title of Canadian National Cyclo-cross Champion. Over 200 cyclists are expected to compete in the event on October 10, 2009. The winners may represent Canada at the World Championships being held in Tabor in the Czech Republic in January 2010.
The same athletes will be competing in the UCI Jim Horner Grand Prix, being held the next day (October 11, 2009) on the same course. The Jim Horner race will be a great opportunity for the top Canadian and international cyclo-cross riders to gain valuable UCI points early in the cyclo-cross season. Last year’s winner in the women’s elite category, Wendy Simms of Nanaimo, B.C., was able to lead the UCI world cyclo-cross points standings for much of the early season because of her performance at the National Championships and Jim Horner races.
Online registration for both events opened this past week and is available through www.karelo.com. The updated race guide, and other information about the race, can be found at www.cyclocrossedmonton.com.
