The UCI ProTour Council (CUPT) met today in Mendrisio (SUI), in parallel with the UCI Road World Championships.

As regards the Cycling Grand Prix in Québec and Montreal, Canada, which have both recently received a UCI ProTour licence, the CUPT decided that these events would take place on 10 and 12 September, respectively. Each year, the event in Québec will precede the Montreal race.

Some indications with regard to the course were disclosed following a visit by UCI's technical delegate: the Montreal Cycling Grand Prix will be contested over 200 km, with an accumulated gradient of 2,800 m, whereas the Québec course will cover 189 km and a total accumulated gradient of 3,000 m.

The Council approved the dates of the events in the UCI ProTour class for 2010 (with a change of date for Gent-Wevelgem, which will take place on 28 March, in the context of the Flemish Week project, supported by the Belgium Cycling Federation), subject to the awarding of UCI ProTour licences to those teams who have not yet obtained them. These dates will be published at the end of the Management Committee meeting which will take place over the next two days, at the same time as those of the other competitions in the UCI World Calendar.

Finally, the members of CUPT demonstrated their willingness to find a  solution to a new problem for 2011: due to a higher number of teams requesting a UCI ProTour licence than expected, the UCI ProTour events which also accept other types of outfit are facing a problem of unmanageable participation rates. The rules on participation for 2011 should, therefore, be modified in order to solve this.

Réunion du Conseil de l'UCI ProTour à Mendrisio

Le Conseil de l'UCI ProTour (CUPT) s'est réuni aujourd'hui à Mendrisio (SUI), en marge des Championnats du Monde Route UCI.

Concernant les Grands Prix Cyclistes de Québec et de Montréal, au Canada, qui viennent tous deux de recevoir une licence UCI ProTour, le CUPT a décidé qu'ils se dérouleraient finalement les 10 et 12 septembre respectivement. L'épreuve de Québec précèdera chaque année la course de Montréal.
Quelques indications quant aux parcours ont été dévoilées suite à la visite du délégué technique de l'UCI : le Grand Prix  Cycliste de Montréal se disputera sur 200 km pour 2'800 m de dénivelé, tandis que celui de Québec mesurera 189 km pour 3'000 m de dénivelé au total.

Le Conseil a ensuite approuvé les dates des épreuves de la classe UCI ProTour pour 2010 (avec un changement de date pour Gent-Wevelgem, qui se disputera finalement le 28 mars prochain, dans le cadre du projet de Semaine Flamande soutenu par la Fédération Cycliste Belge), sous réserve de l'obtention de leur licence UCI ProTour pour celles qui ne l'auraient pas encore obtenue. Ces dates seront publiées à l'issue du Comité Directeur qui se déroulera ces deux prochains jours, en même temps que celles des autres compétitions du Calendrier Mondial UCI.

Finalement les membres du CUPT ont manifesté leur volonté de trouver une solution pour 2011 à un problème nouveau : du fait d'un nombre d'équipes demandant une licence UCI ProTour dépassant les attentes, les épreuves UCI ProTour, qui acceptent également au départ de leur course d'autres types de formations, doivent faire face à une participation difficile à assumer. Les règles de participation pour 2011 devront donc être modifiée pour y remédier.
