Mike's Bike Shop Series Week 16 - Dieppe, NB
The leader of the Mike's Bike Shop series did not waste any time using the first week of three cyclo-cross events to build up his lead. Dieppe's Justin Mallet scored a big win Tuesday night under wet and cold conditions for this first cyclo-cross event of the season. The other contenders - Neil Symington (Sussex) and Julien Roussel (Dieppe) - also did not waste time by finishing second and fourth respectively. Moncton's Bill Goobie made his big return to cycling by squeezing in onto the last step of the podium.
The overall points are crucial in this 18 week series, that is now bringing the cyclists into their sixth and final cycling event. A first place offers the winner a precious 100 points, but that rider is forced to move up a category in the next weeks. So with only 40 points to spare, Mallet will have to battle the last two weeks of competition with an extra handicap if he wants to win the series.
Take note that next week's race will take place at 6:00 pm (and not 6:30) to avoid darkness. Everything takes place at Dieppe's St-Anselme's Rotary Park. Everyone's welcomed to come and try this exciting discipline of cycling!
