CanoeKayak Canada (CKC) announced today that Lorraine Lafrenière is its new Director General.
"It's a privilege to work with CanoeKayak and to contribute to its further success while building its profile in Canada," said Lafrenière, a Canadian sport administrator for more than 20 years.
Career highlights include two years (2007-2009) as CEO/Secretary General of the Canadian Cycling Association where she instilled financial stability and strong high performance programs.
From 2002 to 2006, Lafrenière was Chief Operating Officer for the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC). She played a key role in establishing successful sponsorship programs and strengthened the organization's relationships with the provinces/territories and federal government.
From 1989 to 1996 she was the Canadian Olympic Committee's Manager, Media Relations holding leadership positions with the mission staff at numerous Olympic Games, Pan American Games, and World Championships.
At CKC Lafrenière replaces Anne Merklinger recently named Director, Summer Sport for the Own the Podium program.
"We feel like we have built a strong organization, and that was reflected in the strength of the candidates who applied for the Director General's job,'' said Peter Giles, CKC`s Commodore. ‘'I'm very excited that Lorraine will be leading CKC into the future. After fifteen years with Anne at the helm, we have a lot of great pieces already in place. Now Lorraine is going to bring a new set of strengths and experiences, and that will help us get even better."
Lafrenière begins her functions with CKC on November 1, 2009.
