Davide Rebellin has been ordered to hand back his Olympic silver medal due to a doping offence.
Rebellin, second in the men's road race at the 2008 Beijing Games, tested positive for the banned blood-boosting agent CERA in a post games re-test and the result was announced April of this year.
The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) announced the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decision to disqualify Rebellin.
"The IOC Disciplinary Commission has disqualified Italian athlete Davide Rebellin from the men's road cycling race at the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008, where he finished second," read a statement on CONI's website (www.coni.it).
There has been no statement from the IOC regarding the awarding of the silver to bronze medalist Fabian Cancellara (Switzerland) and the bronze to 4th place Alexander Kolobnev (Russia)
