Former Alberta-based mountain and cyclo-cross racer Tim Heemskerk has accepted the position of national mountain bike coach with the Royal Dutch Cycling Federation (KNUW). Heemskerk is well known on the Alberta provincial scene, both as a racer and coach of riders such as Ryan Hopping and Cody Canning.

According to the KNWU website: "The KNWU has sought a group of talented young team coaches around the Olympic disciplines. With the appointment of Tim Heemskerk this [process] is complete and we will move forward, "said technical director Thorwald Veneberg.

One athlete with whom Heemskerk worked (but who wishes to remain anonymous) stated: "Tim was a very strong positive influence on the Alberta cycling scene during his five years in Edmonton and was multiple time / multiple discipline provincial champion, as well as a coach to many success stories for different Alberta racers. I think most people would know him/his name throughout Canada from his involvement as a mountain biker and coach."
