Following Martin Gilbert’s stage victory at the Tour of Missouri last September, the sole Canadian UCI continental road team will be renamed Spidertech presented by Planet Energy, as Spidertech (Nucap Medical) assumes the leading sponsorship role in 2010.

Over the past three years Planet Energy has provided Cycle Sport Management the opportunity to create and build a competitive road team. Planet Energy will now continue its support as a presenting sponsor.

Spidertech presented by Planet Energy continues to grow and evolve as the team adds depth to its core roster. It is now confirmed that Lucas Euser (Garmin) has found his team in Canada. Lucas has been diligently rehabilitating his kneecap injury (May 09), and is building his form and confidence for the 2010 season. The team is expecting Lucas to improve the group's versatility on the climbs and during the tougher one-day races.

Youthful talent for the present and future has been acquired by signing Guilluame Boivin and Simon Lambert-Lemay, both of whom will provide additional horsepower during the lead out trains and in the final sprints. Flavio De Luna from Aguascalientes, Mexico, and David Boily of Quebec City are poised to exhibit their all-round talents that may surprise many in the peloton. Stephane Cossette will focus on his international track program, but will certainly supplement the rosters’ speed at criterium events.

The core group of Canadian riders, which includes Mark Batty, Eric Boily, Martin Gilbert, Keven Lacombe, Bruno Langlois, François Parisien, Andrew Randell, Ryan Roth and Charly Vives remains intact for 2010.

“The team continues to market its strong collaboration of Canadian partners and it is exciting to have SpiderTech take the leading role. The team is ready to race at higher levels of the sport as we strengthen our abilities. We will be prepared,” says Team director Steve Bauer.

Bauer and partner Josée Larocque, through their company Cycle Sport Management, have been eagerly preparing for the team’s media launches in Montreal and Toronto during the last week of January. During the event in Toronto a live auction will include premium items to raise funds for the team. One priceless item will be Steve Bauer’s final Yellow Jersey of the 1990 Tour de France.
