After nearly a decade in hibernation the Beast of the East has reawakened! The Killington Stage Race in Vermont is back for 2010 with three days of racing on May 29, 30 & 31 with $13,600 in prize money up for grabs.

This year’s event will include an 18 mile/30K circuit race course (2, 3 or 4 laps), an 11 mile/18K individual time trial, and 61 mile/100K hilly road race. There are eight stage race categories: for men P/1/2, 3, 4, 40+, 50+, Juniors and for women 1/2 & 3/4. There are also two opportunities for citizens join in the fun by racing in the circuit race and ITT.

Race Director Gary Kessler, who also organizes the popular Green Mountain Stage Race which takes place on Labor Day weekend, is behind the reincarnation of the KSR.

“For years, the Killington Stage Race was the focus of my racing season. Like so many others I was disappointed when the race was canceled, so much so, that we started the GMSR to keep stage racing alive in Vermont. In 2008 the Killington Economic Development & Tourism Commission contacted me about reviving the event and after 18 months of work we are ready to roll in 2010.”

“We’re excited to help bring back the Killington Stage Race and hope to attract the top amateur cyclists from the Northeastern United States and Canada.” said Seth Webb the Director of the Killington Economic Development and Tourism Commission.

In addition to the General Classification competition, the KSR will also feature both a Sprint and a King/Queen of the Mountains competition with custom leaders’ jerseys. Champion System, an event sponsor, will manufacture the custom designed leaders’ jerseys.
