The Canadian team is spending 2-3 hours at the Omnisport Velodrome as they taper leading in to next weeks World Championships. So what do the athletes do for the rest of the day to pass time?
Travis Smith and Zach Bell are seasoned roommates and keep coming up with new ways to entertain themselves. “This trip Zach came with his new iTouch and we downloaded the new Monopoly App.” According to Travis, “this has been good since we are not walking distance to town and are conserving energy leading in to Copenhagen. We have spent lots of time rolling the dice and trying to figure out how to keep our apples synced.”
Several members of the team travelled the 4 km in to the town centre for a change of scenery and to explore more of Apeldoorn. For Team Pursuit rider Laura Brown it is her first time ever in Europe and the quaint town has made a strong impression. “There are beautiful old buildings and trees and people on bikes everywhere. I could see myself living here!”
Travis Smith and his team sprint teammates Stephane Cossette and Joseph Veloce will be doing a mock team sprint tomorrow in their full race kit and newly altered skinsuits. “I’m really looking forward to getting on the track the next two days and actually doing some work rather than just recovering from travel.”
