April 10th Trail Work Day and April 25th All Weather Challenge at Hilton Falls
After 2 record snowfall winters, and major floods after both, everyone thought that things would be okay at Hilton Falls (one of Ontario's most bike friendly parks) this spring thanks to the minimal snow we got this winter. Unfortunately things didn't turn out that way. The rain that fell on March 12-14 did what the snowmelt floods couldn't. It washed away bridges, damaged others and put several hundred metres of trail in the north end of the park under deep water. The west part of the park is almost inaccessible.
To fix some of the problems Hilton Falls is asking for volunteers for a Trail Work Day at park on Saturday April 10th at 9:00 AM. Please bring hand tools (pruners, pruning saws, gloves, protective eyewear, and green patch boots). Please call Hilton Falls to sign up (or for more info) (905-854-0262) or email to hiltonfalls@hrca.on.ca.
Out of necessity due to the flood damage, the Spokes 'N Slopes All Weather Challenge Individual MTB Time Trial in support of the Hilton Falls Trails is being held later in April on Sunday April 25th. There is a short route for the young folks, and a 14 km loop that can be done once or twice. There's a great BBQ going on and wonderful placing and draw prizes. To register visit www.conservationhalton.on.ca. Once again all proceeds from the event go towards trail work at Hilton Falls.
