April 1/10 8:20 am - Symmetrics Revived?

Posted by Editor on 04/1/10

It is still too early to say for sure, but it looks like the Symmetrics Cycling Team may return for the 2011 season, led by Svein Tuft.  Symmetrics was arguably Canada's most successful pro men's road squad, with riders such as Tuft, Christian Meier, Andrew Pinfold, Andrew Randall and many others combining to win multiple national titles, Pan Am titles, Tour de Beauce and be ranked as the top UCI team of the Americas.  The team folded in 2008, with the riders dispersing to other squads, including Tuft and Meier going to the Garmin-Transitions team.

However, Tuft remembers the team fondly, and is working with a group of backers to revive the Symmetrics squad.  If successful, he will leave Garmin-Transitions to head up the new Symmetrics team.

"Yup, that's the dream," he admitted.  "Riding with those guys was the best time of my life, and I think we can bring it back together.  Riding in Europe is pretty cool and all, but it doesn't hold a candle to Gastown, or the Yaletown Grand Prix, or Whiterock.  Plus, the chocolate milk sucks over in France and Spain."
