Challenging Prologue Added for 2010
Banff National Park is hosting the third annual Banff National Park Bike Fest road race event. Registration is now open for the Alberta Bicycle Association (ABA) sanctioned event taking place June 17 through 20. This year’s event will feature five road races including an Individual Time Trial, 80km 1A Sprint, Criterium, Tunnel Mountain Road Race and the new Surprise Corner Prologue.
Cyclists will be racing through the streets of Banff and throughout Banff National Park over the course of four days. The athletes can expect tough and challenging courses with hairpin turns, breakaway sprints and fierce competition while spectators can enjoy the awe-inspiring scenery and be part of the excitement as cyclists whip past at remarkable speeds.
“Each year Bike Fest attracts a greater number of elite male and female athletes as our reputation as an exciting event with challenging courses continues to grow,” said Stu Back, director in Resort Services Banff Lake Louise Tourism. “We are ecstatic to be hosting the race in the Canadian Rockies for a third time and we are confident that racers and spectators alike will enjoy the true festival atmosphere.”
The weekend will also feature a marketplace and two family-friendly events; The Little Crits Race and Cruiser Crit. The Little Crits Race will have kids from three to eleven years old racing their bikes along the same course the pros do and the Cruiser Crit will have participants donning fun costumes and riding brightly decorated bikes as they race through the streets of Banff.
