Blizzard Spring Stage Race: Stages 1-5
Pat Ferris leads the 25th Blizzard Spring Stage Race, after a weekend of racing. Pat won 4 of the 5 races held from Thursday to Sunday. He currently has 22 points with George Gamble in second at 17, Les Elliott 14 and Bob Andrews 8.
Jolea Bilodeau leads the women’s Spring Stage Race after winning 4 of the 5 stages and has 24 points. Barb Polehoykie was 13 for second spot.
Stage #1: Pat Ferris won the 16 km Baldonnel time trial opener with a time of 27:18. Les Elliott was only 2 seconds back and Bob Andrews was third at 27:44. Jolea Bilodeau won the Women’s with 28:59 and Barb Polehoykie second at 30:42.
Stage #2: Pat Ferris won the 3.5 km Beatton River hill climb with 23:00, George Gamble second at 23:21 and Richard Howes third at 23:29. Jolea Bilodeau won the women’s at 24:38.
Stage #3: The 28 km new Frozen John loop was hilly, gravelly and difficult. Pat Ferris was first at 1:00:29, George Gamble 1:00:36 and Les Elliott third at 1:01:08. Jolea Bilodeau won the 2 lap Women’s’ at 32:21.
Stage #4: Les Elliott won the long and hilly 78 km Mile 62 road race with a time of 2:05:30, edging out Kevin Shaw and George Gamble by a bike length. Barb Polehoykie won the Women’s with 2:16:54.
Stage 5: Pat Ferris won a close sprint with George Gamble, Kevin Shaw and Les Elliott. Jolea Bilodeau was in the group sprint as well. Their time was 1:15:00 for the 40 km Cecil Lake circuit.
Coming up: Tuesday’s Stage 6 from Beatton park at 6:15 pm. Stage 7 is a Baldonnel time trial at 6:15 and Sunday is the final Stage #8 in Taylor for the Rocky Road Race at 1 pm.
