Blue Mountain Resort Summer Update

Modified Downhill Runs

Ontario riders are pulling their bikes out and getting them tuned up before Blue Mountain opens on May 28th. With all the nice weather that we have been experiencing over the past few months, the trail crew has been on the mountain and very busy at work. They’ve been so busy that opening weekend should see all the downhill and cross-county trails open, a few of them with new sections!

O-chute has been touched up with a new upper section that will add more flow, plus the rock drop has been remodeled to spice things up. Squeeker, which opened a new section at the end of last year, has been buffed and made a little wider for all those guys riding 31” plus bars. Grab Bag also got a new look with a few things added for some more flavour.

10 K of X-country Trails

For all those XC folks out there don’t worry we didn't forget about you! The crew worked fast and furiously to get all the XC trials ready too. This season Blue will be offering over 10km’s of XC trails, with 2 loops at the top of the mountain and one at the bottom. If you want to connect all the loops then you, 1.  are crazy, but 2.  can do that with one monster of a climb that will take you from the loop at the bottom to Cory's loop at the top. It will be a "grind".

It has been a busy spring so far at the mountain with lots going on and once we open it will be all here to discover.

More Cycling at Blue Mountain

This season will see lots of opportunities for the competitive side in all of us, whether it’s on the road or the trail.

Starting June 29th Blue will be running a weekly XC race series on Tuesday nights. The series started in 2009 with 4 events, growing to a full series for 2010 with 9 events schedule until August 24th.

For all the Downhillers there will be two events happening at Blue Mountain this summer run by Peter Appleton of Sirbikealot Racing. The first will be the inaugural running of the East Coast Open on July 24th and 25th. Some of the best downhill athletes in the world will be on hand to test their skills on one of Blue Mountains tracks that has never been raced before.

The second event on the schedule will be the Ontario Provincial Championships, the final race of the downhill calendar in Ontario. The best downhill athletes in Ontario will be crowned on August 14th and 15th.

Rounding out the summer of events at Blue Mountain will be another first for the resort. On September 18th and 19th the Centurion Cycling’s 2010 finale will take place on the roads around Blue Mountain starting and finishing at Blue Mountain. The Centurion will offer three different length routes from 25 miles to a grueling 100 miles.

If you don’t have a competitive side or want to make yourself more competitive Wade Simmon’s will be returning to Blue Mountain on July 16th for 3 days. Space is limited but you can sign up for your chance to ride with Wade, and trust me it’s worth it.
