Panorama Mountain Village is excited to play host to two major downhill mountain bike events this summer. The National Cycling Championships and the Mad Trapper Canada Cup make their first appearance at the BC destination resort.
The organizing body for both races is the Canadian Cycling Association, the events are governed by UCI rules and regulations. In both events there is an opportunity for licensed racers to compete for UCI points (the Nationals are open to Canadian riders only).
"The entire bike park crew is getting excited about the two major events. Our course on the trail 'Insanity' is a proven competitive race track which has been well received during the many races and events that have used it. Some of the changes on the course this year may include adding the Cliffs of Insanity into the line and tweaking the finish area so that it is closer to the Village for all the spectators" states Brad Brush - Panorama's Director of Mountain Operations.
Nicholas Vipond, MTB and BMX Coordinator of the Canadian Cycling Association explains, "We are very excited for Panorama Mountain Village to be host of the 2010 National MTB Championships in downhill (DH). This event will showcase Canada's best DH talent who will be battling for the title of National Champion. Downhill mountain biking is a growing segment of bike racing and we feel that hosting a major event at a great downhill resort like Panorama will help to increase the visibility of the sport."
The first event, taking place on July 10 and 11th, is the National Cycling Championships. This is the larger of the two events and there is anticipation of 300 plus riders accompanied by their technical support teams and family.
The Panorama-coined 'Mad Trapper' Canada Cup is scheduled for the following weekend - July 17th and 18th - and is the second stop on the 2010 Canada Cup circuit. Mr. Vipond continues to show his enthusiasm in anticipation of the events. "The interior of BC is a hotspot for DH riding and we are excited to bring the Canada Cup to these riders. We expect to see riders from all over the world show up at Panorama for the Canada Cup as many riders are basing their season out of Canada in preparation for the 2010 MTB World Championships in Mont Ste-Anne Quebec."
"We anticipate many racers will start arriving for the Nationals on Wednesday, July 7th and stay right through for the Canada Cup on the 18th. Doing so will give the riders two opportunities to both compete at a high level and race for UCI points" says Jamie Hurschler - Marketing Coordinator for Panorama.
"The trail crews are busy maintaining and improving all our trails to insure that the opening of the bike park and the events will be successful and memorable for everyone that attends" adds Mr. Brush. Panorama opens for the mountain bike season on Saturday, June 26th, with the Mile 1 Quad operating between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm.
