Ontario XC Championships Debuts Brand New Course
The Plastiglas Ontario Cup Series and Chico Racing are excited to announce the new host of the Ontario Championships on August 22, 2010. Woodnewton is a private 200 acre parcel of land just south of the Town of Uxbridge featuring amazing rolling hills, forests and terrain that will be a mainstay of mountain bike race venues for years to come.
Chico Racing began working with the land owner last summer to create a myriad of singletrack utilizing the unique topography to create a fantastic site for the Ontario Championships.
“One of Chico Racing’s goals has been to keep the Plastiglas Ontario Cup Series fresh and exciting by developing new courses and venues,” says Chico Racing President Adam Ruppel.
The Course Designer Sean Ruppel adds – “Chico Racing began in Uxbridge, recently named the trail capital of Canada, and it is fitting that we host the 2010 Ontario XC Championships here on brand new trails.” The course has been designed from scratch, with many elements that will make it a racer favourite. This year’s course is 8.2 km with a fantastic blend of hand and machine built singletrack.
Pre-race favourites to take the Elite Men’s title this weekend are Derek Zandstra (3 Rox Racing), Peter Glassford (Trek Canada), Andrew Watson (Norco Factory), or current series leader Adam Morka (Trek Canada). In the Elite Women’s field Amanda Sin (3 Rox Racing), Sue Haviland (Norco Evolution) or current series leader Sue Stephens will battle it out for the Ontario Champion title.
Woodnewton is not open for regular riding; however there are ample pre-riding opportunities available during the weekend of the event.
