Bermuda Grand Prix

Just a quick note to let you know that there are a bunch of Canadians competing on the sunny island of Bermuda this weekend at the Conyers Dill and Pearman Bermuda Grand Prix. The event is a 3 day stage race consisting of a TT, Road Race and Criterium. The road race and TT were held on the north end of the island in a former US Military base while Sunday's crit is being held in downtown Hamilton (Bermuda's Capital). So far the Canadians have done admirably. Friday's TT was won by Eric Wohlberg who completed the 15km distance in 19.06 followed distantly by Trent Klasna and Graeme Miller. It's also cool to see former Motorola pro turned Linda McCartney Team director Sean Yates finish 6th in this opening stage.

On the women's side Team ELITA placed first and second with Tina Mayolo from Atlanta Georgia winning the event by 15 seconds over teammate Erin Carter. The Navigators' Laura Van Gilder was third.

In Saturday's Road Race, ELITA's Sophie St Jacques attacked with 4 laps to go along with local phenomenon Melanie Claude. The two road away to a maximum gap of 1:30 when St Jacques attacked Claude and soloed the last lap for the stage win, moving her into second overall on GC. In one of her last race's, Timex's Kendra Wenzel won the bunch sprint for third.

When we left the men's race had 3 laps to go with 10 man break with 6 minutes on the field. However all the GC contenders were in the break so that is where the race was. I suspect that Eric Wohlberg retained his yellow jersey but don't know the stage results.

We are just about to leave for the final stage a 1 hour crit. I'll let you know how it goes.
