Canada's national track team has begun their preparations for the 2010-11 season in Los Angeles with a training camp at the Home Depot velodrome.
Team members Laura Brown and Steph Roorda have provided their initial impressions:

The national track team has moved down to sunny Seal Beach, California. We are all living in a great house, less than 1 km from the beach, and about a 30-min drive to a world-class velodrome. It is great to be down here training with the team day in and day out. I have only been here just over a week but I feel that I have improved already. We are doing some quality training on the track 4 times a week, working on strength mostly right now. We are also in the gym, working with Ron Martin. I am really excited to be down here as I believe it is the best place for me to be to prepare for the upcoming World Cups, but more importantly the World Championships at the end of March. All of this is with the intention to win medals at the 2012 Olympic Games. Thank you to all those who have made this possible.
Steph Roorda
The last week was the start to our new training base and home in LA. We have been training on the world class velodrome and in the sunshine on the roads around our home base in Seal Beach. It has been a great start to our preparation for the World Cups and world championships this season. The team has started working with a strength coach. I have really enjoyed getting back into the gym. I have not worked in a gym since I was a downhill ski racer, when I would spend my summers lifting weights. I am looking forward to seeing improvements in strength from the gym and using it on the track.
