Wauters takes Paris-Tours
Marc Wauters (Rabobank) has won Paris-Tours solo after dropping his breakaway companion Gianni Faresin (Mapei Quick Step). The early breakaway of three was swallowed by the peleton, and then Wauters and Faresin attacked on a climb with about 50 kilometres to go. The favourites all hesitated, waiting for each other to make a move, and this allowed the two to establish a gap. The time difference yo-yoed as abortive attempts were made to reel them in. However, Wauters continued to keep the pressure on, dropping Faresin in the final few kilometres to take the 9th round of the World Cup. Faresin hung on for second, and Jan Kirsipuu (Casino) took third. More to follow.
