Councillors for the City of Burlington voted unanimously in favour of hosting the 2011 Road Nationals at Wednesday's (March 9th) Community Services Committee meeting.
Road Nationals organizers faced some early problems with City of Burlington officials, after concerns about road closures and costs were expressed by police and some local residents. However, the local hotel association, tourism groups and others joined organizers in lobbying the City for the event and the necessary funds.
The City voted to contribute $30,000 towards expenses, and the Burlington Hotel Association presented a cheque for $20,000 at the meeting.
Organizers plan to use the infamous Rattlesnake climb up the Niagara Escarpment for the elite races.
The Elite/U23 events will take place June 23-26, and the Para/Junior/Masters categories will compete on the following weekend (June 30 - July 3).
