Lori Bowden Wins Ironman Hawaii

Canadian triathlete Lori Bowden won the legendary Hawaii Ironman held in Kona Hawaii on Saturday. After a less than satisfactory swim, Bowden set to work to make up the distance between herself and race leader Karen Smyers. Bowden had the fastest bike ride of the day and then broke, no smashed the course record for the final leg, and became the first woman to break the 3 hour barrier on the run.

A stellar finish to a year that has had 2 other Ironman wins (Canada and Australia)

1. Lori Bowden (CAN) 1:02:23/ 5:08:30 / 2:59:16 = 9:13:02.
2. Karen Smyers (USA) 53:03/ 5:15:01/ 3:09:33 = 9:20:40.
3. Fernanda Keller (BRA) 56:04/ 5:15:33/ 3:09:30 = 9:24:30
4. Susanne Nielsen (DEN) 9:29:23
5. Beth Zinkand (USA) 9:34:41

other Canadians
8. Heather Fuhr (CAN) 9:40:39
12. Lisa Bentley (CAN) 9:46:40

3. Tim DeBoom (USA) 8:25:42

HAUNTED NIGHT RACE AND TOUR, OCTOBER 30

Very scarry kids! Time for the annual nocturnal pumpkin ride with the folks at W.O.W.. The race and the tour are back once again, but the big news is a venue change. The Haunted is now at the Mansfield Outdoor Centre, so you're going to get a great race course and some awesome single track for the tour back in the Dufferin County Forest. Make sure you've got good lights so you can do both! The race lasts about an hour. We then take a little break and head out for the trail ride. The trail ride is an hour and a bit depending on folks' lights. We've got lots of tour leaders to guide you back if you start to get brown out. Entry fee includes both race and tour. We have prizes for the fastest racers, prizes for the best costume - so dress up - and draw prizes too, including a BLT light set. We've got snacks for everyone and some special Halloween beers such as Dead Guy Ale (with the skeleton on the beer keg!) and Pendle Witches' Brew available at modest cost.

Entry discount is available until Wednesday. Go to the W.O.W. website at www.wowmtb.com to get a registration form and all of the details. Registration is available on event day. The Mansfield Outdoor Centre is on the east side of Airport Road, 10 km north of Highway 89, northwest of Alliston. It's about an hour from Toronto. The race starts at 7pm so arrive early. Registration is in the Main Chalet. See you there!!!
