Early Bird Registration Deadline Ends March 31st
Early-season road racing has kicked off in the province, the fabled Barry’s Roubaix road cycling race presented by Local Ride Bike Shop is less than three weeks away, and racers only have until March 31st to enter for an early-bird registration discount.
“The Spring Series racing that started this month has been great and I’m sure Barry’s Roubaix will see even bigger fields, more action, and some fantastic competition,” said Barry Lyster, race organizer and owner of Local Ride Bike Shop in Maple Ridge, BC. “With this course, anything can happen. It could end in an exciting field sprint that favours the power riders, but it may also turn into a breakaway scenario that sees more of an all-round rider take the victory.”
Barry’s Roubaix, run on a flat, gravelly course near the Pitt Meadows airport, pays homage to the windy and hostile conditions faced by ProTour riders during historic spring classic races in Europe, like Paris Roubaix, which will be featuring its 108th edition in France, also on April 10.
“It could be wet, windy, and cold or it may be sunny and mild. You never know with the spring classics. I hope it will be miserable – that will make the races more epic, which is what Barry’s Roubaix is all about,” said Lyster.
The 10km loop features roughly 4km of the scenic Pitt Meadows Dyke system along with rural farm roads.
In addition to the usual Category 3/4 races for men and women, and the showcase Category 1/2 Men’s and Women’s races, Barry’s Roubaix is offering new Novice categories, along with a Youth race, making the exciting event more accessible to all levels of riders.
