The second annual RBC GranFondo Whistler sold out this week at 7,000 riders, almost six months in advance of the September 10th event date.
"Selling out so quickly reinforces what people tell us; they love the event," said Neil McKinnon, co-founder of GranFondo Canada. He added, "We are very clearly on track to soon be a 10,000 cyclist event."
The fully-supported ride includes a 120 kilometre route on the Sea to Sky highway along a dedicated lane width. Aid stations pepper the route with water, nutritional supplements, mechanical assistance and other perks such as coffee from a local roaster. With a full spectrum of local partners partnering to support the event, the 2011 RBC GranFondo Whistler will showcase the best the Sea to Sky corridor has to offer.
McKinnon also noted, "We're so excited to build on the success of last year's event and create even better experiences for our riders, including an expanded expo, great entertainment and parties for all to celebrate."
The RBC GranFondo Kelowna, taking place earlier in the year on July 16th still has availability for those interested in participating in a GranFondo Canada ride this year. Registration is available online.
