Racing ended early in the evening when strong winds and heavy rain forced the suspension of all competition.  The finals for today's races: Men's Individual Pursuit, Women's Team Sprint, Men's Scratch Race and Keirin will be added to tomorrow's schedule.

Rider Reports from Junior Pan Am Championships

As Team Canada prepares for a double day of racing at the Junior Pan Americian Championships (the second session on Wednesday was cancelled due to weather) in Mar del Plata, Argentina, Team Manager Rob Good wanted to provide a rider's perspective of the Championships.

Canada has made it to four event medals rounds that will be contested before Noon today [Thursday].  With the rain out last night the racers will be doubling up on the amount of track time today.

After more than 30 hours of travel, the rest of the team and I arrived at the hotel that will host teams participating in the competition. So I am complete with the knowledge about the team members with whom I will spend the next 10 days! Despite the slight communication problems, I can still communicate with English-speaking riders, even the one that calls me "the Quieb", and I hear a few jokes about my accent!

It was after two days of training on the track of Mar del Plata that things became serious. Following a disastrous Points Race, I was able to participate in the Individual Pursuit. Even though I knew my chances of medals were thin, I still gave what I had to give. The result was a personal record in the discipline and an honorable eighth place. Now I'm looking forward to the Team Pursuit and Road Race to end these Pan Am Games.


Après plus de 30 heure de voyagement, moi ainsi que le reste de l'équipe arrivons à l'hôtel qui hébergera les équipes participantes à la compétition. J'ai donc pu faire connaisance avec les membres de l'équipe avec qui je passerai les 10 prochain jours. Malgré les léger problèmes de communications, j'arrive tout de même à bien m'entendre avec les coureurs anglophones, Même qu'on se permet de m'appeler "the Quieb" et de me lancer quelques blagues sur mon accent!

Ce fut après les 2 jours d'entrainement sur la piste de Mar del Plata que les choses sérieuese commencèrent. Suite à une désastreuse course aux points, j'ai pu participer à la poursuite individuelle.
Même si je savais mes chances de médailles minces jai tout de même donner ce que j'avais à donner. Le résultat fut un record personnelle dans la discipline ainsi qu'une honorable 8e place. J'attend maintenant avec impatience la poursuite en équipe et la course sur route qui mettera fin à ces jeux panaméricains.

Hi Canada!

The sky has not been very kind to us today [Wednesday]. The session of the afternoon was postponed to tomorrow due to rain. The morning was successful for the team. Alex [Cataford] has a very good start to the day with his pursuit. He made the fastest time and he also broke the record of the velodrome. [Note: he has since won the gold medal]

The day continued with the keirin for men. Daniel [McKenzie-Picot] and Jesse [Marans] rode very well, so they will race in the second round tomorrow morning.

Subsequently, my teammates and I began our morning in the team pursuit. Despite the lack of practice, we still qualified for the finals for the bronze medal [Note: which they have now won]. Afterwards, despite a false start and a few mistakes, Allison and I are qualified to the final for the bronze medal in the Team Sprint that we race for tomorrow against the Mexicans.

Unfortunately, the rain started at the Scratch Race of Aiden [Caves] and Kyle [Buckosky]. My two teammates started the race very well and they were important actors in it, although it was their first international experience. The Scratch Race will begin again tomorrow and they will have only ten kilometres to go.

We all hope that the bus will not arrive late as it did today, because tomorrow will start early and be very importsnt for all team members!

Le ciel n'a pas été très clément avec nous aujourd'hui. La session de l'après-midi fut reporté à demain dû à la pluie. Par contre, l'avant-midi fut fructueuse pour l'équipe. Alex a très bien commencé la journée avec sa poursuite. Il a fait le temps le plus rapide et il a également battu le record du vélodrome.

La journée sait poursuivit avec le keirin des hommes. Daniel et Jesse ont très bien roulé donc ils courseront dans le deuxième round demain matin.

Par la suite, mes coéquipières et moi avont débuté notre avant-midi par la poursuite par équipe. Malgré le manque de pratique, nous nous sommes tout de même qualifié pour la finale pour la médaille de bronze. Après, malgré un faux départ et quelques erreurs, Allison et moi sommes qualifié pour la finale pour la médaille de  bronze dans le team sprint que nous allons disputé demain contre les mexicaines.

Malheureusement, la pluie a débuté lors du scratch de Aden et Kyle. Mes deux coéquipiers ont très bien débuté la course et ils ont été des acteurs important durant celle-ci malgré que  c'était leur première expérience internationale. Le scratch reprendera demain et ils n'auront que 10 km à faire.

Nous espérons tous que l'autobus n'arrivera pas en retard comme il l'a fait aujourd'hui, car la journée de demain commencera très tôt et sera très chargé pour tous les membres de l'équipe.
