Snow may still be falling at Whistler Blackcomb but, with spring just around the corner, mountain bike enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the Whistler Mountain Bike Park opening, scheduled for Saturday, May 20th.

"Our team is hard at work getting ready for the 2011 Bike Park season and this summer is looking to be one of the best yet," says Brian Finestone, Bike Park Manager for Whistler Blackcomb. "With snow still covering the trails, it's going to be a real chore to dig them out this year but the anticipation of bike season fuels us. A lot of great work was done last fall upgrading some popular trails as well as creating Scottish Hammer and Fade to Black; all of which will soon be uncovered for our riders to enjoy."

Early Bird Bike Park Season Passes and Triple Play Cards go on sale April 15th for $485 and $134.95 (plus HST) respectively. Riders who purchase their Season Passes and Cards before May 31st will save $40 off the regular Seasons Pass rate, while Triple Play Card purchasers will receive an additional free day for use before June 24th.

Guests who purchase a Season Pass or Triple Play Card are also eligible for additional discounts including 20 percent off food at the Garibaldi Lift Co. (GLC) and Roundhouse Lodge, 20 percent off retail at Garbanzo Bike & Bean, and 20 percent off rentals at Garbanzo Rentals and the new Whistler Mountain Bike Park Demo Centre. Guests looking to purchase can visit whistlerblackcomb.com/bike or call 1-800-766-0449. Once the Whistler Mountain Bike Park trail crew finish digging out the lower half of the bike park, construction will begin on the most unbelievable Slopestyle course in Crankworx history. This year Kokanee Crankworx takes place, July 16-24.

Between now and Kokanee Crankworx there are plenty of exciting bike related things to put on the to-do list. The Crud 2 Mud Downhill race will be back again on May 29th with registration beginning on April 25th. A new high performance demo centre in the Carleton Lodge will allow guests to demo a selection of 14 high performance downhill bike models from eight different brands.
