Work begins on City of Ottawa's Laurier Avenue bike lane
Construction has begun on Ottawa’s first segregated bike lane.
Work to build the separate lane for cyclists began on Monday and will affect Laurier Avenue from Bronson Avenue to Lyon Street. The plan calls for the new bike path to run the length of Laurier from Bronson to Elgin. Construction is scheduled to wrap up by the end of the summer. A segregated bike lane is a street-level bike path physically removed from the road by barriers such as poles, curbs or trees.

Bicyclists fight speed limits on Golden Gate Bridge
Plans to put the brakes on bicyclists riding across the Golden Gate Bridge has cycling enthusiasts crying foul in this urban center of two-wheeled activism.
Hundreds of commuters, residents and tourists ride the bridge's stately span each day, and occasionally there is a smash-up when bikers run into one another or collide with tourists drinking in the views. Still, the city was taken by surprise this week when bridge officials proposed speed limits as a way to reduce the accident rate on San Francisco's signature landmark.

Mayor of London to present Wills, Kate with bicycle made for two
London Mayor Boris Johnson, who is a cycling enthusiast, is set to present the royal couple, Prince William and Kate Middleton, a bicycle made for two.
Johnson, 46, who will be presenting the couple the tandem bicycle next week, caused a row when he demanded Transport for London (TfL), which is funded by passenger fares and taxpayers, pay for the 500 pounds bike.

Cyclist keeps on truckin’ with Good Friday win
A brush with death hasn’t stopped Burlington’s Charles Bryer from pursuing his cycling career.
The 22-year-old Aldershot High School graduate was struck by a truck while training in Ottawa last year, but showed no ill effects in winning the Elite 1&2 category of the Hamilton Cycling Club’s Good Friday Road Race.
