Six of Canada’s top U23 cyclists to race the only non-European event on UCI Nations Cup calendar

The Canadian Cycling Association (CCA) is pleased to announce the athletes selected for the 2011 Nations Cup stage race in Saguenay, QC, to be held from June 2nd to June 5th, 2011.

The Nations Cup in Saguenay is a UCI Stage Race for U23 cyclists, and is comprised of four stages totalling a distance of 558.5 kilometres.

The Nations Cup in Saguenay is part of a global U23 Nations Cup series, and is the only non-European Nations Cup race on the UCI calendar. The series has six races throughout the season, and the Saguenay race will be the fifth event of the season.

This season, Canada has fielded teams in all four Nations Cup races to date, with David Boily posting Canada’s top placing, a 20th place in the opening race of the season at the Tour of Flanders.

A total of 12 teams with cyclists from 20 countries are expected to participate in this year’s edition.

France is currently leading the Nations Cup series with a total of 65 points, followed by Italy in second with 48 points and Belgium in third with 47 points.

Stage 4 – Chicoutimi – 128.4 km (12 laps of 10.7 km circuit)
