Good morning and welcome to our coverage of the World Cup XC #2 in Dalby Forest, Yorkshire UK

 

Our coverage brought to you with the support of Velirium

 

83 riders in the elite field and 31 U23 women (who will not do start loop)

 

It is a stero typical Yorkshire day.  Cool with off and on rain, windy (30 km her +).  The track will be very slick in places

A good crowd turnout, despite being a rather remote are

 

Irina Kalentieva will not start as she dsid not get her VISA in time.

 

They will do 5 laps

 

This is a Power course so will suit Ren Chengyuan (Specialized Racing), Julie Bresset (BH - Suntour - Peisey Vallandry), Nathalie Schneitter and Sabine Spitz (Central Haibike Pro Team)

 

Start Lap

Eva Lechner (Colnago Arreghini Sudtirol) has take the lead and has a steady line be hind her as they make ther was quickly around the short start loop

 

As they head out onto the firsat line it is Lene Byberg (Specialized Racing) first followed by Lechne, then Ren Chengyuan (Specialized Racing). 

Catharine Pendrel (Luna Pro Team), 10th Emily Batty (Subaru - Trek), Marie-Helene Premont (Team Maxxis - Rocky Mountain) 12th

 

Emily Batty (Subaru Trek) will be riding a brand new Trek 29er that just arrived

 

World Champ downhiller Tracy Mosley (Trek World Team) will be competing in the XC (she competed in the Eliminator last night) and will be riding for the British National Team

 

6.3 km is one circuit

 

 

Lap 1

 

5:54 am ET -   Ren Chengyuan has taken the lead position followed by Nathalie Schneitter (Colnago Arreghini Sudtirol), Byberg, Julie Bresset (BH - Suntour - Peisey Vallandry), Maja Wloszczowska (CCC Polkowice), Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjaa (Multivan Merida Biking Team), Julie Bresset (BH - Suntour - Peisey Vallandry), Sabine Spitz (Central Haibike Pro Team)

 

5:59 am ET - Ren Chengyuan still leading and starting to open a gap, but slid out on a slippery corner and Schneitter caught up

 

6:03 am  Ren Chengyuan back in the lead again with a gap on a group of chasers (3) Bressette, Schneitter(?) , Byberg

 

Lap 2

 

Bressette has joined Ren Chengyuan in the lead. Spitz 3rd at 20 sec, Wloszczowska 4th at s.t.

Pendrel 5th at 26 sec, Lechner 7th at 27, Scheiter 7th at 35, Byberg 8th at s.t., Katerina Nash (Luna Pro Team) 9th at  37 and Dahl at 47 and batty 11th at 48 sec

Prmont 19th at 1:23

Compton 22nd, Gould 24th

 

6:14 am ET - Bresette has taken the lead and is putting the pressure on Ren.  There is still a large bunch chasing with only 45 seconds separating the top 10

 

In the U 23  at the end of the 2nd lap, Pauline Ferrand Prevot (Lapierre International) has the lead with a gap of 7 sec on Barbara Benko (Focus MIG Team). Mikaela Kofman (Team Canada) sitting 19th at 2:12 and Laura Bietola (Team Canada) 26th at 3 min back

 

6:17 am ET - At the drop Ren Chengyuan has taken back the lead and has a small gap on Bresset  and they have opened up a good gap on Spitz and Wloszczowska with Pendrel right behind.

 

Nash 6th, then a gap (6 sec) to Dahle Flesjaa, then  Batty and Annie Last

 

6:22 am ET - Ren Chengyuan and Bresset are really battling it out at the front.  The wind is making the going quite hard in the open areas.  The sun is out off and on, tho' the rain has backed off

 

Pendrel and Wloszczowska have now passed Spitz.  Batty 12th, Premont 15th

 

Lap 3

Ren Chengyuan leading Bresset across the line.  Pendrel, Wloszczowska and Spitz together at 33 sec.

6th is Lechner at 47 sec, Nash 7th 53 sec, Byberg 8th at 55 sec, Schneitter 9th at 1 min, Annika Langvad (Team Easton Rockets) 10th

Batty 12th at 1:29, Premont 15th at 1:43

 

Emily Batty had a bad crash here last year and finished 15th, so she will be looking for a better ride this year.

 

U23 Women gave just started their 3rd lap with Pauline Ferrand Prevot (Lapierre International) leading Kathrin Stirnemann (Central Haibike Pro Team) by 38 sec.  Barbara Benko (Focus MIG Team) 3rd at 39 sec.  Kofman 16th, Bietola 18th

 

6:35 am ET - Ren Chengyuan leading Bresset on the descent into the tech zone.  They have continued to open the gap to 3rd Pendrel who has gapped Wloszczowska and Spitz.  Then Lechner in 6th is moving up

 

6:42 am ET -  Bresset back leading into the wind with Ren Chengyuan on her wheel.  Pendrel alone, but the 3 chasers are not out of sight.  Spitz,Wloszczowska and Langvad  are the next chase group and they have the 3 chasers in their sights

 

As they head to the line to start lap 4 no change in the leaders. Pendrel is opening her gap to the 2 chasers now Spitz and Wloszczowska

Across the line Bresset leads Ren Chengyuan

Pendrel 3rd at 47 sec

Spitz and Wloszczowska at 55

Annika Langvad (Team Easton Rockets)  6th at 1:02

Premont 12th at 1:52

Batty 13th at 1:53

Gould 16th at 2:31

Compton 20th

McConneloug 28th

Sin 39th

 

 

U23 Women: Pauline Ferrand Prevot (Lapierre International) leading, Kathrin Stirnemann (Central Haibike Pro Team) at 1:05

Kofman 15th, Bietola 18th

 

The rain has started up again

 

7am ET - Bresset leading Ren Chengyuann into the wind on the open section as they head to the end of the lap.

 

There are now 4 chasers together: Pendrel, Landvad, Spitz and Wloszczowska

 

Last Lap

Ren Chengyuan and Bresset. Langvad leading Pendrel at 1:22, Spitz at 1:23, Wloszczowska at 1:24

Premont now 9th at 2:14 back

Batty 14th at 3:03

Gould 14th

Sin 38th

Dyck 49th

 

 

7:11 am ET - Bresset has gapped Ren Chengyuan and Ren has really slowed.  Is not pedalling much.  She's hit the wall it appears

Pendrel and Langvad together with Spitz trailing.

Wloszczowska is gapped

 

U23 Women:  Pauline Ferrand Prevot (Lapierre International) wins, Kathrin Stirnemann (Central Haibike Pro Team) 2nd

Kofman 13th

 

7:17 am ET - Pendrel is closing on Ren Chengyuan

 

They are starting the climb for the last time.

 

7:21 am ET - Bresset leading with 1 km to go. Ren Chengyuan seems to have found her wind again and it is Landvad now in 3rd with Ren Chengyuan in her sights, Spitz 4th and Pendrel has dropped back to 7th

 

7:24 ET - Landvad has passed Ren Chengyuan. Spitz 4th , Lechner 5th, Pendrel 6th,
