Good morning and welcome to our coverage of the World Cup XC # 3 in Offenberg Germany

The Women will do a start loop and then 5 full laps.  U23's will not do the start loop

(80 entrants, 5 Canada), U23 women (43 entrants, 2 Canada)

Ren only top rider missing women, other than her, top-30 all here.

Music is pounding, beer gardens already busy - including the one back in the woods at the Snake Pit

Lots of 29er use - both hardtail and FS.  This might be first race where more 29" then 26" on start line.  Lene Byberg is planning on racing the new women's 29er hardtail (it will be named the Fate)

 

Course is VERY dry and fast

 

Start loop

Nathalie Schneitter (Colnago Arreghini Sudtirol) leads the bunch at the end of the start loop followed by Eva Lechner (Colnago Arreghini Sudtirol), Sabine Spitz (Central Haibike Pro Team), Julie Bresset (BH - Suntour - Peisey Vallandry), Lene Byberg (Specialized Racing), Georgia Gould (Luna Pro Team)

Marie-Helene Premont (Team Maxxis - Rocky Mountain) 11th, Catharine Pendrel (Luna Pro Team) 14th, Emily Batty (Subaru - Trek) 16th

A front group had already started to separate out by the time they set out for the first full lap.

Schneitter leading followed by Spitz, Byberg, Premont, Kalentieva, Maja Wloszczowska (CCC Polkowice), Pendrel, Annie Last (British National Team)

Barbara Benko (Focus MIG Team) and Elisabeth Sveum (Team Merida Smart Safety) are already joining the back of the Elite group

Bresset  has taken the lead and Pendrel on her wheel.  Then a gap

Kalentieva , Suss, Premont, Byberg, Spitz, Gould and more in a big bunch

Seems Bresset did not go down too hard and she and Pendrel are together

Kalentieva 3rd in sight

Heading out it is Pendrel with Bresset, at s.t.

Kalentieva at 12 sec, Gould at 15 sec, Lechner at 16 sec, Byberg at 21 sec, Spitz at 24 sec, Suss at 25 sec, Premont 9th at s.t.

Katie Compton 11th, Batty 20th at 1:37

 

5:26 am ET

At the DualSpeed.  Pendrel and Bresset are still battling it out in the lead.   Lechner has caught Kalentieva.

 

U23 women

Prevot leading, Benko 2nd at 40 sec.  Koffman has dropped out of  top 20, now 24th at 4:35 back

 

Elite Women

5:31 am ET

On the descent -   Bressett leading Pendrel.  Lechner 3rd, Kalentieva  4th, Gould 5th, Premont 6th

Blaza Klemencic (Felt Oetztal X - Bionic Team), Byberg and Suss on her tail

 

At the end of the snakepit - 5:31 am ET

Bresset leading Pendrel

Lechner 3rd at 39 sec, followed by Kalentieva at 42 sec.  Gould, Premont, Byberg,

 

Lap 4

 

Heading out onto the 4th lap, 2 to go

Bresset leading Pendrel

Premont 45 sec, Byberg and Lechner at 46 sec, , Gould  47 sec

Kalentieva has dropped to 11th

Batty 17th at 2:27

Dyck 47th at 6:33

Sin 50th at 7:05

Bresset and Pendrel are opening the gap on the chasers

 

5:48 am ET

On the descent after the North Shore Climb.  Bresset leading with Pendrel just behind

Lechner, Byberg and Premont battling it out for 3rd.  They are now nearly 1 min back

 

5:54 am ET - Coming out of the SnakePit.  Bresset has a 10+ sec gap on Pendrel

Byberg, Lechner and Premont at 56 sec

Gould 6th, but well off the pace

Bresset with Pendrel now at 25 sec
