Tour de Beauce: Stage 1: Lac-Etchemin to Lac-Etchemin, 165.2 km
17 teams for the 2011 start and a total of 113 riders.
It is a grey and cool day - low teens
Start: 9:30 am
An attack launched with 9 riders: Sweeting, Randell, King, Schmidt, Kemps, Lyttle, Burnett, Harrison, Tivers - went from the gun, quickly taking 20 seconds, but were caught at the first KOM (21.3 km)
As soon as they were caught a group of 18, with all the top riders, went.
Some riders are bridging, and the group is 25 22
At 30 km the gap is 40 seconds
10:25 am Gap now 53 seconds
10:40 am at 51 km gap is 1:25
10:54 am @ 60 km and the gap is 2:17. United Healthcare doing the bullk of the work in the peloton

12:10pm Radio and cell coverage again
At 75 km and the gap had dropped to 1:57. Leaders were "messing about", not working together and TT1 had gone to the front in the peloton and were clasin=g the gap rapidly
At 84 km the gap was back up to 2:57
There's a strong crosswind today, 90 kmph and it is causing the lead group some difficulty
at 2nd KOM, 98.6 km the gap at 5:35
12:14 pm: At 112km (53 to go) and the gap is up to 6:45
12: 26 pm - At the 3rd KOM (123 km - 42 km to go) Gap is now 9 minutes
Sun has finally come out, but it is only 17C and very windy
12:42 pm - Gap now over 11 minutes
12:47 pm At 25 km to go the gap is 12 min. Average spped for the first 3 hrs has been 41.7 km/hr
1pm - Ben Day (Kenda) flats but gets a quick change and is back in the lead bunch again
1:08 pm - Gap over 14 min
1:20 pm - < 15 km to go
1:22 pm - 13 km to go and there is an attack off the front of the lead bunch.
Phil Gaimon (Kenda/ 5-hour Energy Pro Cycling p/b Geargrinder), François Parisien (Spidertech p/b C10) and Timothy Gudsell (Pure Black Racing) have gone clear and have a 23 sec gap. Lead bunch NOT chasing
1:26 pm - 10 km to go - no change
1:32 pm - Leaders have been joined by Benjamin King (Team Type 1 sanofi-aventis), Scott Lyttle (Pure Black Racing) and Brett Tivers (Garneau-Club Chaussures- Norton Rose). Gap over 50 sec as they charge to the finish - <5 km to go
