Forums Problems
You may have noticed a problem with entering new postings to the Forums yesterday. It has been fixed, so that you can again start new threads. Unfortunately, there is still a slight problem with new postings to existing threads not showing up on the front page of the Forums. You can still participate in threads, and your posting will show up in the thread. However, you will get an error message that says "Can't find insertion point". New threads will be fine, but old ones (prior to today) will have that message. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Tour de Langkawi, Malaysia
Our editor will be travelling to Malaysia tomorrow to join the Tour in time for the 4th stage (Saturday). Until then, National Team manager Jacques Landry is sending in reports:
Well, for the fifth time in so many years the country of Malaysia is hosting what they call the third best stage race in the world, after The Tour and The Giro. This year is special because the TDL boasts of having the first important international stage race of the new millennium.
Although the REAL race only starts tomorrow, the 26th of Jan, the Malaysian organisation decided to treat the crowd on the isle of Langkawi with a short and fast crit.
At 3:15 PM, just after a small downpour had wet the streets, the race was underway. The Canadians were fairly active, using this event as warmup for days to come. Mark Walters decided to stretch his legs first creating a break with former teammate and fellow Canadian Gord Fraser (Mercury) . Then it was Dominique Perras' (Phonak) turn to have fun at the front.
About mid way through the race a break of sixteen was formed with Sylvain Beauchamp helping out with the work to stay away from the main field. Sylvain was also in the company of a fellow teammate from Shaklee, Graeme Miller, who is part of the ALL STAR team sponsored by Telecom Malaysia.
Eventually, this break would stick and Graeme attacked with less than a lap to go to claim a victory for the Telecom Malaysia All Stars.
Tomorrow, the real race starts with a 9,2 km time trial, my bets are on...
