Ontario Provincial Road Race Championships, Waterloo, ON – Sunday July 24th

ExtremeRoad.com is pleased to present the Provincial Road Race Championships on Sunday July 24, 2011 on the Bamberg Loop, just north of Waterloo. A former championship course, it was used in 1995 and 2003 for this event and features 14.5 km of rolling terrain with a nice climb to the finish. Spectator viewing is exceptional from the top of the hill at the finish. A very popular circuit with local cyclists, all of the roads have been resurfaced within recent years and a considerable amount of bike lanes have been added in sections.

Based at the K-W Optimist Club, 2001 Kressler Road, Heidelberg, On., there will be plenty of parking in the open field immediately adjacent to all the action. Our regular cart vendor will be on hand once again for those who wish to purchase lunch on-site.

Weather is forecast to be partly cloudy and very warm, so plan to bring refreshments, shade and other items to help stay comfortable. Bring plenty of extra water.

On-line pre-registration is mandatory at the OCA.

On-line pre-registration closes at midnight Thursday July 21st.

Important Information Regarding the Yellow Line Rule at Ontario Road Provincials

Since the upcoming Provincial Road Race Championship is the first race to be run on the (non-closed) roads in Ontario after the nationals, this is a quick reminder that the Yellow Line Rule will be in full effect once again. There will be zero tolerance enforcement.

• If you are caught taking an advantage by crossing the yellow line, you will be disqualified and required to leave the race.

• Pay attention every lap while crossing the start/finish line as you may be notified of your DQ at that point rather than immediately.

• Failure to remove yourself from the race and report back to the commissaries at the start/finish line may result in an additional penalty.

This is primarily a safety issue, and a serious one at that. While there may be situations where a DQ is not called for, it is in your best interests to avoid crossing the line altogether. Remember, if you are the rider closest to the line, you’re inches away from being pulled from the race.

Good luck to everyone and safe racing!
