Organizers of the 2011 Tour of the Catskills are proud to announce that at least 22 States will be represented at this weekend’s fourth annual road cycling event in the Catskills Mountains of New York State.  Nearly 700 racers are currently registered, and more than 800 are expected by the start of the event on Friday in Hunter.  Fifteen States and five countries were represented in 2010.

The 3-day race begins on Friday, August 5th, with the 12-mile, Stage 1 Individual Time Trial in Hunter.

The Saturday and Sunday road races, on August 6-7, feature epic climbs in Greene and Ulster Counties.  Saturday’s 65-mile second stage (96 miles for professional men) in Tannersville showcases the famed ‘Devil’s Kitchen’ climb in the Town of Saugerties featured in the Tour de Trump in the 1990’s.  Sunday’s 59-mile Stage 3 (91 miles for professional men) in Windham includes the difficult Susquehanna Turnpike climb in the Town of Durham, and the Airport Road climb in the Town of Lexington.

The race is also seeking volunteer support for the event.  A few volunteers are still needed for each day - Friday through Sunday - including course marshals, registration personnel, and start/finish line helpers.  All volunteers will receive an event t-shirt, training, and all materials necessary for their responsibilities.  Details of the volunteer program can be found on the event website at  The volunteer training is scheduled for Friday at the Hunter Mountain Resort - 7:30-8:30 pm.
