ARC Resources and SpeedTheory Cycling host evening bike races – for kids and adults – in downtown Calgary on August 6th and 7th
Jason Lapierre, a local ski and cycling enthusiast, was taken off the roster way too early in life. In Jason’s memory, the SpeedTheory Cycling Club, together with title sponsor, ARC Resources Ltd., is hosting a series of bicycle races over two days this weekend.
Bring your bells and get ready to holler! The weekend starts with the provincial time trial championships on Saturday morning in Acme. The afternoon events kick off in the Eau Claire area of downtown Calgary with a kid’s fun race at 4:30 pm on a closed city circuit where everyone is guaranteed a medal.
Two full city blocks in Eau Claire will be closed to traffic and set up to run numerous exciting criterium races for adults beginning at 5 pm, with the top racers starting at 8:10 pm. It’s a spectator-friendly event in which cyclists ride laps around the closed course and is by far the most exciting type of bike race to watch live. High speeds. Tight corners. Shoulder to shoulder action. Very exciting to watch.
Not tired yet? Sunday morning, the road race starts in Bergen, just northwest of town.
Bring your kids, and their bicycles, tricycles or pushbikes and come join in the fun! Or just come line the streets, cheer on the athletes and enjoy the cycling spectacle.
