We posted last week, after Svein Tuft's 13th place in the Elite men's time trial, that Canada would receive two spots for the Olympic time trial next year. We jumped the gun a bit on that. Canada has the potential for two spots, with one guaranteed. The top ten nations in the Worlds TT all received a spot, and Canada was tenth. Those were the preliminary spots awarded, with the remainder to be given out after the UCI releases its final world ranking in November. At that time, Canada could receive a second spot if it is ranked in the top four nations of the Continental rankings (there are also spots based on World Tour rankings, but we have no chance at one of those). Currently - prior to the results of Worlds and the final events of the season - Canada is fifth in the Americas Tour, so we have one spot guaranteed, with the potential for a second one.
