Rocky Mountain Bicycles announces support for 2000 Canadian Pro Team.

Rocky Mountain Bicycles is proud to announce the signing of it's Canadian Pro Team for the year 2000. After long negotiations with it's former sponsor Chevy Trucks Canada, Rocky Mountain will unfortunately have to go it alone this year without a title sponsor. This result has been difficult for the Company and the Canadian Program but Rocky Mountain has stepped up the amount of support to compensate for this. We have focused our efforts this year on supporting some of Canada's hottest new rising stars with some very solid veteran talent to help support the younger riders.

This year's squad includes: '99' XC Jr. runner-up Jaimie Douglas; '99' XC Jr. Champion Ricky Federau, top 5 Espoir Ryan Dey, top 3 Espoir Neil Grover and top 10 Elite favorite Jason Crookham. XC Females, '99' 6th place overall Claire Townsend, new rising star Eron Chorney, and favorites Christine Platt, and Sylvie Allen. Riding DH Pro Male again this year will be '98' Dual Slalom Champion Mike Hirst; Racing DH Pro Female is promising young rider Andrea Kraft and super fast Sylvie Allen. Sylvie was the '99' Canada Cup overall Champion and will again be competing in both DH and XC.

Rocky Mountain has a long and proud history of supporting Canada's new talent and we are happy to continue this for the coming season and in the future. You can expect to see the Rocky Mountain Team in full force at Canada Cup, Provincial and some Norba Races in 2000. Under-20 Cycling Performance Spring Break Supercamp

Presented by: Pacificsport Group Fraser Valley Cycling Center
Sponsored by: Adidas and Powerbar

Dates: March 20-26, 2000
Location: Langley, BC
Cost: $250

(Cost includes all coaching, information seminars, physiological testing, training plan, video analysis, two road races, and bike rental and user fee for learning to ride the track.)

Accommodations:
Hotel package available for $440 per week per room. Rooms hold up to 4 people, have fridge, microwave, with laundry and groceries short walk away. Make up your own room or we can arrange a room for you with other participants. First come first served on setting up rooms of 4 to keep costs down.

Purpose:
This camp is designed to give the competitive off-road, road, or track cyclist the tools they need to train and race more effectively and safely. The on the bike sessions are geared around road riding to develop the fitness and skills needed for any form of competitive cycling. This camp will include over 2 hrs per day average on the bike.

Prerequisites:
Valid 2000 Cycling BC licence or $15 event licence. Road bikes with full rear fender and mud flap are MANDATORY.

Coaches:
Jeremy Storie is a level 4 cycling coach who has coached 5 riders to the World Championships in all cycling discplines: road, track, and off-road. He is also a high school teacher. Jeremy has raced at the national level for many years and has been involved in the cycling community as coach, rider, race organizer, and volunteer. Jeremy has a great passion for the sport of bicycle racing which is demonstrated by his tireless efforts in promoting the sport.

Race Face Proposes New BB Standard

Canadian component manufacturer Race Face will be introducing a proposed industry standard for splined bottom bracket axles within the next 6-8 weeks. Currently Shimano has a patented splined design, but that is specific to their own high end groups (Dura Ace for road and XTR for off road). The new design will be available to anyone in the industry who wants to use it, offering a non-Shimano alternative. Race Face expects to begin production by September.
