January 26/12 10:51 am - UCI Releases Continental Team Rankings for Start of 2012 Season

The International Cycling Union (UCI) has published a fictitious ranking for the UCI Continental Teams registered in 2012, established on the basis of points obtained by the best riders among their current members during the last season (2010-2011). Canada's only Pro Continental registered team, SpiderTech powered by C10, is ranked ninth in the Americas Tour (complete list below). SpiderTech was also ranked 48th in the Europe Tour. (Note: The rankings released by the UCI for each Continental Tour list both Pro Continental and Continental squads, however, the automatic entries are for the Continental squads only)
This fictitious ranking, which reflects the sporting value of the 2012 UCI Continental Teams, establishes which teams will receive automatic invitations to events on their respective Continental Circuits.
The organisers of all the non-European races (Class 1 and 2) on the UCI Continental Circuits will be obliged, in accordance with Article 2.1.007 of the UCI Regulations, to invite the three best teams from their continent (according to the classification mentioned).
As for organisers of Class 2 UCI Europe Tour races, they will have to invite the three best European Continental Teams.
The fictitious classification published today should not be confused with the Continental Rankings that are calculated on the 25th of each month.
